United award sale: Fly to Hong Kong for 40K miles
United Airlines has been running an award sale all this week, allowing United MileagePlus members to score flight deals to a different destination every day.
For the final day of the promotion, the airline is offering discounted economy award fares to Hong Kong from the U.S. starting at 40,000 miles (plus taxes and fees) each way for United cardholders or 45,000 miles for noncardholders.

With this deal, United MileagePlus members will find flights from the U.S. to Hong Kong for 45,000 miles, plus taxes and fees. Those with a United credit card can save even more, with options starting from 40,000 miles, plus taxes and fees.

United offers nonstop flights to Hong Kong from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Flights from other major U.S. airports, such as Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Denver International Airport (DEN), stop at both SFO and LAX.
There is plenty of availability until Dec. 9.

Discounted fares are for basic economy and economy. Basic economy fares are nonrefundable and non-reschedulable and do not include seat selection or checked baggage. If the trip is canceled prior to departure, they may be eligible for partial travel credit, but additional restrictions may apply. Available fares are valid for travel Sunday through Saturday.

For this particular award sale, you can get the best award fares if you have a cobranded United Chase card, such as:
- United? Explorer Card: 2 miles per dollar spent on dining, hotel stays booked directly with the hotel and United purchases, plus 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases
- United Club? Infinite Card: 4 miles per dollar spent on United purchases, 2 miles per dollar spent on all other travel and dining purchases and 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases
- United Quest? Card: 3 miles per dollar spent on United purchases (immediately after earning the annual $125 United purchase credit); 2 miles per dollar spent on dining, select streaming services and other travel purchases; and 1 mile per dollar spent on all other purchases
If you don't hold a United Chase credit card, you could also maximize your points earning by using another credit card that earns bonus points on airfare purchases, such as:

The carrier kicked things off with discounted award fares to Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti. The final offer of the week is for flights to Hong Kong with fares starting at 40,000 miles for United Chase cardmembers or 45,000 miles for United MileagePlus members without a United credit card.
